Online Coursework

The Texas EMS School online learning environment emphasizes content, not class time. The Paramedic program is developed using adaptive learning technologies that assess what you already know and only provide homework assignments for areas in which you are struggling. That means that you can move forward as you master concepts and spend more time on content that addresses your weaknesses.

One of our most frequently asked questions is how long it takes to become a Paramedic. The online coursework for the Paramedic program should be completed within 18 months. However many students complete the work in a shorter period of time. All components of the program – including coursework, hands-on Skills Labs, clinical / field experiences, and capstone internship – must be completed within 18 months.

If you have a laptop, tablet, or smartphone with internet access, you have the basic tools you need to get started.

Hands-On Skills Labs

During hands-on Skills Labs, you’ll have an opportunity to practice, receive feedback on, and demonstrate your Paramedic psychomotor skills. You’ll also have access to our skills training library, online resources, and experienced Paramedic instructors to help you feel confident in your Paramedic skills.

To complete this portion of the program, you’ll be required to attend a minimum of three Skills Labs. Skills Labs typically take place over two days at Texas EMS School’s training facility in Abilene, Texas or at a location throughout Texas. Additional locations may be available from time to time. Contact our student support team to find out about dates and locations that may work best for you.

Clinical and Field Experiences

You’ll participate in clinical / field experiences at leading hospitals, clinics, and ambulance services in Texas. During this phase of the program, you’ll gain hands-on experience and have an opportunity to put your skills into practice in real-life situations – all while being guided by experienced EMS and medical personnel.

Capstone Internship

You’ll serve as the Lead Paramedic on an ambulance at a 911 ambulance service in Texas, while providing direction to your peers and practicing at the highest level of EMS Care.

Capstone internships are effective for networking within the local area and our Paramedic program in Texas helps you to accumulate real-world experience that you can include on your professional resume.

Why Become a Paramedic?

The healthcare field is home to numerous fast-paced careers, but few come close to that of a Paramedic. These experts provide immediate care to patients, and it’s common for Paramedics to perform jobs that are more advanced than those that a standard EMT is trained to complete.

Training to work as a Paramedic means you’ll be able to assist those with respiratory complications, open wounds, medication withdrawals, and other time-sensitive conditions until a doctor or specialist can take over. Paramedics have more experience in the field and additional training compared to a standard EMT. As a result, the position typically comes with more responsibilities and a higher rate of pay.

Full-Time Paramedic Program Eligibility

Texas EMS School accepts Texas residents that are 18 years or older to participate in the Paramedic program. All students must have a valid state ID and hold an EMT certification or higher to qualify. We also ask that all participants have a high school diploma or equivalent level of education to enroll.
